Interactive marketing experiences for global brands including Intel, Cisco, Siemens, and Microsoft, plus a commercial fantasy sports platform used by leagues worldwide.

Throughout my career, I've found that the most valuable programming skill isn't mastering a particular language; it's understanding the underlying concepts and engineering principles that apply regardless of technology.

Engineering principles
over specific tools

That mindset has enabled me to adapt quickly as tools, languages, and platforms have evolved. As a software engineer and technical architect with decades of experience, I've designed, developed, and delivered commercial software across desktop and web platforms while helping engineering teams adopt new technologies and effective development practices.

I enjoy solving complex technical problems, building flexible and practical software, and learning new technologies when they offer better solutions. My approach is rooted in sound engineering practices, thoughtful design, and creating software that is both robust and maintainable.

My work has spanned a wide range of programming languages, frameworks, and technologies, from low-level x86/MMX assembly and C/C++ to modern web and desktop application platforms. I have developed both front-end and back-end applications, giving me full-stack expertise across diverse technologies and environments. Working for a small company has also given me hands-on experience beyond software development, including server administration, networking, database design and management, and IT infrastructure.

At Advanced Computer Graphics (ACG), I architected and developed the core libraries and application frameworks used by the programming team to deliver interactive marketing projects. In addition to providing technical leadership, I personally created hundreds of interactive marketing projects over the years for major companies including Intel, Cisco, Siemens, and Microsoft. I was also responsible for researching and evaluating emerging technologies that enhanced the capabilities of our developers, designers, and management team. Working directly with stakeholders, I transformed creative concepts and business requirements into technically sophisticated, dynamic interactive experiences.

At PrimeTime Draft, I lead the architecture, development, and evolution of a commercial fantasy sports digital draft board product. I guided PrimeTime Draft from concept to production and continue to enhance it through new features, platform improvements, and ongoing customer support.

Outside of work, I co-founded and help run PrimeTime Cornhole, the largest social cornhole league community in the Greater Cincinnati area. When I'm not running league nights or coding new projects, you'll usually find me doing research for fantasy football, talking tech with my son as he pursues his own Computer Science degree, or enjoying time with family and friends.

Transforming creative concepts into deployable, client-ready solutions

At ACG, creating digital marketing projects was generally a collaborative effort involving artists and designers, project managers, and software engineers. I was fortunate to work alongside exceptionally talented creative professionals who were responsible for the majority of the visual and creative design. My role was to take their layouts, designs, and individual graphic elements and transform them into fully functional interactive experiences for our clients.

Throughout my time at ACG, I was responsible for delivering hundreds of interactive experiences. The projects below are representative examples of projects where I served as the primary developer, writing virtually all of the code:

From personal project to commercial product

For several years, my fantasy football league used a traditional paper draft board with stickers to track each team's players. We eventually realized we could make the draft easier, more flexible, and more engaging. So my future business partner and I set out to build a digital alternative that we could display on a large, high-definition TV. He handled the majority of the visual design, while I built the application itself.

The initial version was such a significant improvement over paper draft boards that we knew other fantasy football leagues would want the same experience. We decided to turn the project into a commercial product, and within the following year I had built out the full PrimeTime Draft platform.

Over the platform's history, PrimeTime Draft has supported tens of thousands of fantasy sports leagues, been featured as the centerpiece of draft experiences at major entertainment establishments, showcased on nationally syndicated sports programs, and used by professional athletes, teams, and organizations.

Extending a commercial platform beyond its standard capabilities

In 2020, ACG was asked to create a unique "virtual store" marketing experience. I researched and evaluated several tools for creating interactive, 360-degree panorama experiences and ultimately selected 3DVista Virtual Tour Pro (VTP). VTP's easy-to-use authoring interface handled the majority of a typical virtual tour's needs, and its UI was simple enough that even non-technical authors could use it if necessary for a project's timeline. Other tools offered more technical flexibility, but none matched VTP for getting the bulk of the tasks done quickly and reliably.

However, the team felt VTP's native capabilities fell a bit short of the sophisticated, dynamic experiences we wanted to deliver. So I set out to find a way to extend it further, and eventually discovered advanced techniques for extending VTP, allowing me to combine my prior expertise in creating interactive experiences with its underlying framework. Since then, I have continued to push the boundaries of VTP, developing new functionality for increasingly dynamic and innovative virtual tour experiences.

I also help users troubleshoot technical issues, get the most from standard features, and explore the possibilities of advanced functionality as a moderator of the 3DVista Users Group on Facebook.
